"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child"

The newest installment to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter came out at midnight July 30, so naturally I already read it.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child starts off at the end of book 7, with Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny putting their kids on the train to Hogwarts at Platform 9 3/4. The book (which is actually a script of the play in London that opened the same day the book came out) follows Albus Severus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy on an adventure through time to save the world as they know it.

This book was a fast read and a heartfelt journey back to an adventure and story that is dear to me. The characters are just the same as ever, though older and wiser. Hermione is Minister of Magic and Harry is head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. Ron runs Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes and Ginny edits the Daily Prophet. The newest characters are the children of the famous trio and Draco's son Scorpius - who is best friends with Albus.

I have been at home at Hogwarts and the Wizarding World since I first read Sorcerer's Stone way back when. The newest edition, though written in script form, could only be told by J.K. Rowling herself. She birthed this world and only she can write about it. She knows what she's doing. I can't wait to go to London to see the play and looking forward to November to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Shadow of Night

So I finished the book Shadow of Night ...it was amazing! I can not wait until the third installment comes out and I hope that its soon. The character development of Matthew and Diana is great. Throughout the book they find out more about themselves and each other, even though they are decades in the past. Matthew, because he lived in that time period, has to revert back to his old ways and the reader can see how different was in the past compared to the present. When time traveling, you learn that you are not supposed to alter time. Matthew and Diana left an important mark on Elizabethan London and the rest of history. Historical figures come and go throughout the book, such as Christopher Marlowe, Walter Raleigh, Queen Elizabeth and a brief mention of William Shakespeare. Diana was there to learn more about her magic, but only developed her power towards the end when a surprising character appears and helps rid her of her fear of magic. "Good In Bed" - Jennifer Weiner

I've never read Jennifer Weiner before, but know that she writes what most people call: beach reads - a book that's easy and fun to read. No one wants to read Anna Karenina on the beach, right? So you need something - I don't want to say dumbed down, but yes, dumbed down. Something that everyone can understand, laugh about, maybe even cry a little. I bought this book a while ago at my local Books-A-Million on a sales rack and it's been sitting collecting dust in my book shelf with numerous other books for months. I haven't been reading a lot lately - sad, but true - but I've been busy and was reading Dan Brown for months. It's not that I couldn't get into it, but if you've read Brown, he has so much facts in there that you really have to pay attention and reading at work or while you're renovating a house, I put it down then have to go back and read a chapter or two before I can remember what happened. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close

Last night I watched Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close , the 2011 film starring Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock and newcomer Thomas Horn. I knew the film was going to be about September 11th, but I was not expecting this - a 9 year old's journey through New York City to find the lock to a key left by his father who died in the World Trade Center, is what the previews said, but it was a lot more than that. It was a sons struggle to find himself and cope with the loss of his father in his own way. Not only does he meet many different people of different backgrounds, but along the way he realizes that his father left him one great life lesson and that he can make it on his own without him. It could have done with more mother-son time, because Sandra bullock is barely in the movie, but I think that was the point. The son didn't need his mother, though she was there, in the background. He knew she was there and so did the viewer, but not until the end. The major role definitely goes ...
