You probably wouldn't think that I would be a Thor fan, or a Marvel Comic fan or any type of fan of super heroes and all that, but I am. I love these kind of movies. I loved Thor and The Avengers and all of the X-Men movies - I can't wait for the newest one. Needless to say, I watched Thor: The Dark World that opened in theaters November 8 and I thoroughly enjoyed it - and not just because there's a scene where Chris Hemsworth is half naked, but that was more than enjoyable as well ;). I love Nicholas Sparks ! I know, you're thinking it's probably because I'm a girl, and you would probably be right. Most guys do not sit around reading a bunch of novels or watch movies that involve romance. And that's all that Sparks rights about. Every one of his books involves a man and woman who are complete strangers who wind up falling in love, with some sort of plot twist where the two find it hard to stay together due to illness or an ex. Safe Haven  is no different. Katie is the new girl in a small North Carolina town - the setting for most of Sparks' books. She is quiet and shy, keeping to herself although she works at the busiest restaurant in town and its hard for anyone in a small town not to know everything about everyone. She reluctantly becomes friends with Jo, her next door neighbor, and Alex, a widowed store owner with two small children, and slowly begins to let down her guard. I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan, and so when J.K. Rowling's new book, A Casual Vacancy , came out, I had to read it. But, it didn't appeal to me. I have no clue about government and politics and especially about the English government, and so I haven't been able to read it all the way through. Though I could definitely tell the voice of the book was all Rowling - with her word play, her character names and description. It just wasn't my cup of tea. :( Her new book though, under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith , is AMAZING!!! I could barely put it down. It's a detective/crime novel set in London based around Detective Cormoran Strike - I seriously love her creative names, always have and always will. The vampire novel "Fevre Dream" by George R.R. Martin has only a few things in common with his "Game of Thrones" series - character development and setting. Everything else about the book is a far cry from the fictional world of Westeros. First published in 1982, "Fevre Dream" precedes the famous book and now television series by a few years and yet I only just read it. Set in 1857 along the Mississippi River, Martin brings to life the world of riverboats and vampires. Abner Marsh is a struggling riverboat captain longing for a fast steamboat to race along the Mississippi. Joshua York, a wealthy, pale stranger, is his answer. Though at the time, Marsh believes York to be aspiring steamboat captain, he soon learns that York isn't what he seems.
