If you like Marvel comics, superheroes, The Avengers, Thor, Iron Man and watched Captain America: The First Avenger, then you probably have already watched this movie. But if you haven't yet, and you are only watching it because you think Chris Evans is hot - well you'll like it too.
In Winter Soldier, Steve Rogers/Captain America, finds himself looking into the eyes of his past, literally. He is also questioning whether he should still be a soldier, and then the fate of the world is in his hands, again. S.H.I.E.L.D. is compromised and Captain America teams up with Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) to stop Hydra - an organization that is basically a new Nazi Germany (they create a weapon that uses a computer and DNA to target and kill people everywhere in the world). Key members of S.H.I.E.L.D. are part of Hydra and it gets a little confusing as to whose good and whose bad. But in this movie, all the good people are targeted to be killed off one by one - Nick Fury, Captain America, Black Widow - anyone who will try to stop them.
The end of the movie ensures the t.v. show, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., next few episodes where Hydra is a big part. S.H.I.E.L.D has already ended and only the team under the command of Phil Coulson are trying to save everything that S.H.I.E.L.D. was/is. The only problem is, they don't know who to trust or who the enemy really is.
As always, Marvel amazes me in keeping me on my toes. I've never read the comic books, but have always enjoyed the movies. I give this a two thumbs up! It answered a lot of questions that were left unanswered in past movies and gave me new questions to ask. First, Captain America's love is alive, in a nursing home with Alzheimers, but she's alive! She also started S.H.I.E.L.D. with Tony Stark's father. Crazy! And then, you'll never guess who the Winter Soldier is - he's the one that targets Captain America and tries to kill him throughout the movie because Hydra tells him to. SPOILER ALERT - it's Steve Rogers' best friend Bucky Barnes, who everyone thought died in the previous movie when he fell off the train. But, he didn't. He was reprogrammed into becoming this crazy killing machine! Captain America realizes who he is as soon as he takes off his mask. At first Bucky doesn't remember Steve or who he is, but as Captain America repeats Bucky's name, he slowly remembers. There's hope for him because he ends up saving Captain America from drowning at the end of the movie. Can't wait for the next movie - because there's obviously going to be another one!
